This stone blade from Neanderthal culture may be small, but it has a large history. Beautifully napped and made from a smooth and colorful piece of chert, this primitive tool was a sophisticated creation over 40,000 years ago.

First occurrences of Neanderthals date back over 400,000 years ago, living and hunting during the Ice Age. They were shorter and stockier than modern humans with a sloping forehead and large nose. Neanderthals were technologically advanced creating tools like hand axes and blades from stones and bones.
