The Douvilleiceras ammonite can be found all over the world and is distinguished by its highly textured and ribbed shell. It is quite remarkable at the universal placement of these ammonites as they lived during a time of continental drift.

As this marine mollusk fossilized in what is now Madagascar, the original organic matter of the shell was slowly dissolved by water and replaced by minerals like calcite.

This ammonite has been polished to display the beautiful variety of browns and grays and the suture patterns of its shell. The suture pattern provided strength and protection as it traveled in the sea.
