Moss agate is not technically an agate because it is not banded, but it is actually a variety of chalcedony quartz. It is a milky-white color with inclusions of manganese or iron that grow in a dendritic way creating an organic mossy appearance. Green moss agate contains green inclusions of minerals like chlorite or hornblende.
Moss agate is formed from weathered volcanic rocks in Uruguay, India, Brazil, Europe and western United States.
