Tourmaline is a mineral that can be found in a broad range of colors--even pink.
Pink tourmaline falls under the elbaite species of tourmalines, meaning the most colorful of tourmalines. Its color comes from being lithium-rich and is a result of prolonged natural irradiation.
Originally discovered in Sri Lanka, British colonizers brought the brightly colored stones to Europe to meet the high demand for gems.
California, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Afghanistan and Madagascar are common localities of pink tourmaline.
