A chicken-wing shaped tektite that formed millions of years ago.

Tektites are natural glass bodies formed from earth and sediment projected during meteorite impacts.

Despite being formed because of an extraterrestrial body coming into contact with earth, tektites are primarily made up of terrestrial materials. It is widely assumed that when a meteorite impacted the ground at high speeds, rocks and other sediment were quickly melted and/or vaporized and ejected from the crater at a high velocity. When these ejections re-entered the atmosphere, they rapidly cooled to create tektites that could be found hundreds of miles from the impact site. Tektites are only found in mass strewn fields like the Australasian, Central European, North American and Ivory Coast.
